Scope of DOE Activities

At the Kursk nuclear power plant, DOE efforts focus on improving the safety of day-to-day operations at the plant and upgrading critical plant safety systems. DOE projects include providing tools, equipment, and training to improve plant maintenance (1995-ongoing) and upgrading key engineered safety systems (1993-1998). Projects that support the performance of in-depth safety assessments and transfer the capabilities for performing plant safety analyses also are in progress (1995-ongoing).
