Technical/Upgrading Activities
Primary activities are in developing a series of staff training courses and in providing a full-scope simulator.
Training
The Khmelnytskyy plant was established as the pilot training site for Ukraine; training equipment for the center was delivered. Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) completed a training needs analysis that also identified program development requirements and priorities.
General Physics Corporation, a U.S. firm that specializes in nuclear training, was selected to provide support in developing the training programs. Specialists from the Khmelnytskyy plant helped develop courses at General Physics Corporation. Job-specific pilot courses and other specialized courses (systematic approach to training, safety culture, and general employee safety training) are being completed for the Khmelnytskyy plant. General Physics is developing training materials for chemical operations personnel at the Khmelnytskyy plant, including training focused on instrumentation specific to the plant.
Simulator
The United States firm S3 Technologies, BNL, and Russian staff of VNIIAES are working with Khmelsytskyy staff to install a full-scope simulator. Simulator control panels are being provided by Energotraining in Kiev. Work on the building to house the simulator was delayed by a very severe winter in 1995-96 and by customs delays on equipment shipments from Russia and the U.S. Work is scheduled for completion in November 1997.
