November 8 - Kyiv, Ukraine
Zaporizhzhya Safe-Shutdown Study. Representatives of Brookhaven and Pacific Northwest national laboratories, Burns & Roe, and U.S. consultant Engineering Planning and Management will meet to review progress on the safe-shutdown study. November 8-19 - Kyiv, Ukraine
Training. A second workshop will be held in the transfer of the Control Room Reactor Operator training program to Ukrainian nuclear power plants. (John Yoder, DOE, 301-903-5650; Don Draper, PNNL, 509-372-4079)

* November 12 - Odessa, Ukraine
Simulators. A kick-off meeting for the Zaporizhzhya Unit 1 simulator project will be held. Participants will include representatives of Brookhaven and Pacific Northwest national laboratories, GSE Power Systems, Energoatom, and Zaporizhzhya NPP. They will review project and contract items so that all parties are aware of their responsibilities. The detailed schedule of the project will be developed after this meeting. * November 15-20 - Kyiv, Ukraine
Simulators. A project review meeting for the South Ukraine Unit 1 and Rivne Unit 3 simulator projects will be held in Kyiv and at the plant sites. Project team members from Brookhaven and Pacific Northwest national laboratories, GSE Power Systems, Energoatom, and the plants are scheduled to participate. * November 15-20 - USA
Training. Four management personnel from Ignalina NPP will tour and participate in discussions with training personnel at the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the Institute for Nuclear Power Operations, and Sequoyah NPP to learn more about the selection, qualification, and training requirements and practices in the United States. Training experts from the U.S. Department of Energy and Human Performance Analysis Corporation are providing support to this visit. (John Yoder, DOE, 301-903-5650; Don Draper, PNNL, 509-372-4079)

* November 29 - Moscow, Russia
Simulators. Technical specialists from Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and GSE Power Systems will evaluate factory acceptance tests for the Bilibino analytical simulator. The simulator, now at the VNIIAES facility in Moscow, is expected to be ready for shipment to Bilibino by mid-December 1999. (John Yoder, DOE, 301-903-5650; Joe Cleary, PNNL, 509-372-4094)

November 29-December 10 - Kyiv, Ukraine
Training. U.S. training experts from Sonalysts, Inc., and Human Performance Analysis Corporation, along with representatives of Ukrainian nuclear power plants and the Engineering and Technical Center for the Training of Nuclear Industry Personnel, will discuss ongoing modifications to the current one-week simulator instructor training course. December 6-17 - Armenia NPP, Armenia
Training. A U.S. training expert from Sonalysts, Inc., and a training expert from the International Atomic Energy Agency will work with Armenia NPP training and technical specialists to complete preparations for implementation of training programs for radiation protection technicians and senior foremen for the reactor equipment maintenance shop. * December 7-10 - Ignalina NPP, Lithuania
Simulators and Training. Ignalina NPP will host a seminar on use and management of full-scope simulators at nuclear power plants with RBMK reactors. Two representatives each from the Smolensk Training Center and Chornobyl, Kursk, Leningrad, and Smolensk NPPs are expected to attend. A U.S. training expert from the U.S. Department of Energy and a utility representative from Seabrook NPP also will participate. (John Yoder, DOE, 301-903-5650; Don Draper, PNNL, 509-372-4079)
